A MAN has been arrested for €220,000 in cannabis that was seized in Bantry on Monday.
Gardai arrested a man, 30 years old, while on patrol in Bantry, Co Cork at 1pm on January 31, and a quantity of marijuana was seized.
During several subsequent searches in the Bantry area, the cannabis herb was found.
Police said the cannabis, pending analysis, was worth around €220,000.
This man has been released and a file is being sent to the DPP.
Gardai said investigations are underway.
A spokesman said: “Gardai seized approximately €220,000 suspected to be cannabis herbs and arrested a man following several searches in Bantry, County Cork, on Monday, January 31, 2022. .
“After interacting with Gardai during a uniformed mobile patrol in the Bantry area around 1pm, a man in his 30s was arrested and detained at Bantry Garda station as defined in Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. A suspected amount of herbal cannabis was placed on this person.

“Several searches were subsequently conducted in the Bantry area and quantities of cannabis weed suspected to be cannabis were recovered.
“In total, herbs suspected to be cannabis with an estimated value of €220,000 (pending analysis) were seized.
“The man in his 30s has been released. A case is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“Investigations are underway.”
