A man calmly buying cigarettes and taking a pregnancy test with his girlfriend stabbed her to death just half an hour later, a court heard today.

Mark Richard Alexander, 28, from Lambeth in London, denies killing his girlfriend Azaria Williams, 26, after they returned home from Sainsbury’s.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter by extenuating responsibility.

Police found Azaria lying in a pool of her own blood on December 27, 2020, in an apartment complex in Stockwell.

She has been in a relationship with Mr. Alexander since the summer of 2018.

CCTV broadcast in court showed Azaria walking with the defendant to their local Sainsbury’s at 8:36pm, where they browsed the aisles to take a pregnancy test.

After taking the test and two packs of cigarettes, they headed back to her top-floor apartment on Clapham Road.

Neighbors then called the police after hearing screams, and Azaria’s body was found in the apartment. She died at the scene.

Crime investigation police found a negative pregnancy test, believed to have been purchased half an hour before, lying in bed.

Another officer described Alexander’s behavior as “strangely calm” as he sat on his bed and mumbled as he answered questions.

Neighbor Hannah Toumazou said they heard “screams” shortly after 9 p.m. and the pair were frequently heard “fighting” that led to Azaria’s death, the jury said.

In a statement sent to police, Ms Toumazou described hearing a “loud female scream” that prompted her to turn off the TV while watching with a friend Patricia Labella and listen.

“Several seconds after pausing the TV, I heard a woman scream, it was loud and continuous and she sounded very distressed,” she recalls.

“Patricia went to the front door, she said, ‘Hannah you need to call the police because he’s going to kill her.’ I called 999 right away.”

On a call to emergency services at 9:12 p.m., neighbor Toumazu said: “Hi my neighbor is really screaming, she lives above me and lives with her partner she.

“She was screaming, really screaming, screaming all the time. She lives on the top floor, she keeps screaming, she doesn’t stop. It sounds bloody. I’m really sorry but but This has been going on for a few weeks now.”

She continued: “We could hear the woman screaming, as soon as I heard the screams I said ‘that’s not normal, call the police’.

“I could hear the man shouting at the woman but she was screaming so loud I couldn’t hear a word. I could hear her crying and moaning and it was quiet. and much more subtle”.

“We could also hear other noises like banging, not the door but as if someone was throwing something on the floor.”

The jurors were shown sneaky footage of two police officers arriving at the scene, seven minutes after the 999 call was made.

After pushing the door open, they immediately found Azaria, who was lying motionless in a pool of her own blood.

Alexander was arrested and taken into custody, before being charged with murder after three days of questioning.

He was remanded into custody after appearing at Croydon Magistrates Court on December 30, but was later transferred to a mental health facility.

Alexander pleaded guilty to manslaughter by extenuating responsibility. The trial continued.
