A man has been remanded in custody accused of a series of sexual assaults on five women in Dublin’s Grafton Street and the capital’s South Quays area.
Evin Kletzander, 31, who is not a permanent resident, appeared before Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court on Tuesday.
Garda Mark Costello said the defendant “did not respond to the charges after being cautioned”.
The man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Grafton Street on August 5 and four other women on the Quays a week later.
The head of the prosecutor’s office has initiated the indictment in the district court, but an evidence book has yet to be served on him.
No bail request has been filed and he has not provided a plea.
Defense attorney Sean Smith told the court there was “an issue of eligibility to stand trial.” He added that he was working with his client’s psychiatrist and was awaiting a report.
Judge Kelly placed him in custody pending the preparation of the evidence book. She complied with Garda Costello’s request and ordered that he be given 48 hours’ notice in the event of a bail request.
She also directed the prison service to provide medical attention to the defendant for his mental health.
He will perform again on February 7th.
The court granted legal aid after hearing that he was unemployed and had no income.
