A man in his 70s has died after his car collided with a truck in Co Westmeath.
An injured woman who was a passenger in the car was flown from the scene to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin on the N4 near Ballinalack. Her condition is considered serious.
The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was taken to Mullingar Hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The collision happened just after 5 p.m. today.
The elderly man’s body was taken to the morgue at Mullingar Hospital and the local coroner was notified.
The road has been closed to traffic and diversions are being put in place while Garda forensic collision investigators examine the scene.
Gardaí have appealed to all witnesses to the collision to come forward and anyone with camera footage is asked to make it available to investigators.
