Man dies after being found injured in village cul-de-sac after ‘argument in the pub’

Police were called to an address in the village of Charfield, Gloucestershire, on Friday, where they found a man who “could not be rescued” – while a second man was arrested on suspicion of murder

A man was killed after a “quarrel” in a village pub, and another man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police and ambulances were called to an address in the Gloucestershire village of Charfield, near Wotton-under-Edge, just before 11pm on Friday night.

Detectives said the first paramedics to the scene found a seriously injured man who “unfortunately could not be saved.” Gloucestershire Live Reports.

The dead man’s name has not yet been released – police said the man has not yet been formally identified but his family are “aware” and have support.

Police said another man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and was in police custody.

They have appealed to anyone with information about what happened in Charfield on Friday, including at any of the village pubs.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said emergency services had been called to an address in Thames Close.

“One man was found injured and unfortunately could not be rescued,” she said.

“While the man’s identity has yet to be officially confirmed, his family is aware and is being assisted by specially trained officers.

“Our thoughts are with her loss.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody,” she added.

Police said people will continue to see a police presence in the area.

Thames Close is a small cul-de-sac of only around 15 houses and bungalows on the south side of the village of Charfield which is north of Yate and close to Wotton-under-Edge.

“People will continue to see an increased police presence in the village as officers conduct house-to-house and other inquiries,” the spokesman said.

“Police do not believe there is a risk to the wider community but if you have any concerns please speak to one of the uniformed neighborhood officers who will be in the area.

“Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a previous altercation at the Railway Tavern pub in Wotton Road, or who has any information or footage from security cameras, doorbells or dashcams that may assist in the investigation.
