Greater Manchester Police have launched an inquiry into the death of a man after a firearm was fired on Claremont Road.
Police were responding to reports of a shooting in the early hours of Monday morning when they found a man between 18 and 25 with serious injuries.
The man was taken to the hospital but died shortly thereafter.
In a statement just after 6am Monday morning, police said a scene still exists at Princess Parkway and Claremont Road and the public are advised to avoid the area.
Detective Superintendent Jude Holmes said: “First of all, at this extremely difficult time, my thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this devastating incident.
“While the investigation is still ongoing and at an early stage, we are working very hard to understand the full circumstances.
“Our response included increased patrols in the immediate area to keep the community safe while much work was done overnight and continues today.
“Any details that might help us are requested to get in touch as we know there have been a number of potential witnesses to this serious incident.”
