Devastated friends of a man who failed to show up while playing in a river discovered his half-eaten body after watching a crocodile drag him underwater.

The remains of the villager were discovered after being attacked by the beast in Indonesia.

The 37-year-old victim, known only as Kamaruddin, 37, was reported missing after being killed on April 14.

His friends say they saw a crocodile drag him underwater as he cooled off.

Locals and concerned relatives launched a frantic search, scouring the river in motor boats for traces of Kamaruddin.

They didn’t finally find a lead until the next day, when a resident smelled a foul odor in the air.

They followed the horrid stench upstream with trepidation and were greeted with a sickened sight.

Tattered pieces of Kamaruddin’s body lay among the mangroves.

A large crocodile was seen feasting on its mangled remains with its entire lower half missing, rescue workers said.

The oversatiated beast fled quickly as the team approached.

Marjani, Chief of North Penajam Paser Regional Disaster Management Agency, said: “The victim was found by his family who conducted an independent search. He was found around 11:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday evening, June 15.

“The body was recovered and given to the family for burial.”

After the tragic attack, authorities warned locals to be vigilant about activities in the river.

It’s not the only crocodile attack this week – and the drunk man almost regretted getting up close.

The crocodile tried to drag him into a lagoon after he threw rocks at the reptile.

The animal, said to have been provoked by the man, grabbed his leg between its jaws and pulled him toward the water.

Video footage of the horrific incident was filmed on the shores of La Encantada Lagoon in the Gaviotas neighborhood of the city of Villahermosa in southeastern Mexico.

It shows the man hurling rocks at the crocodile, which responded even more aggressively.

Municipal Civil Protection Director Jose Arturo Gomez Ascencio said the man, who was not named in local reports, was drunk and “provoked” the reptile.

Gomez Ascencio said: “The person who appeared to be attacked threw stones at it and was drunk.

“These animals are in the reproductive stage, they have eggs and the animal felt attacked and reacted.”

The crocodile, a female, apparently bit the male’s leg and – as seen in the footage – caused him to fall to the ground to prevent him from disturbing his nest.

It is not known if the man was injured in the incident as bystanders polled by local media said he left the scene on foot alone.

Later that same afternoon, firefighters went to the scene to secure the crocodile and its eggs.
