Man hospitalized and section of M6 motorway closed after collision between two lorries

A section of the M6 ​​motorway between Dublin and Galway was closed this evening following a collision between two lorries.

The vehicles collided just before 18:00 in the east lane near junction 14 between Ballinasloe and Athlone.

Emergency services continue to clear debris and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.

“Gardaí is currently at the scene of a road traffic collision involving two lorries which occurred at around 5.45pm in County Roscommon on the eastbound M6 between the Ballinasloe East Junction and Athlone,” said a Garda spokesman.

“A man was taken to Galway University Hospital for treatment for his injuries. No other personal injuries have been reported at this time.

“The eastbound M6 remains closed and is expected to remain closed for some time. Eastbound traffic is being asked to deviate at junction 14 and take the R446 to Athlone where it will rejoin the motorway at junction 13.”
