A 27-year-old man has died and a man in his 70s is fighting for his life in hospital after a double stitch on Saturday morning in Cork.
The 42-year-old man was arrested by Gardaí in connection with the incident.
The violent incident took place at 3:30am at Sea View Avenue housing development, Carrigaline, Co Cork.
Gardaí arrived at the scene to find a 27-year-old man seriously injured with apparent stab wounds to his chest and while emergency services desperately tried to help him, he died at the scene.
A 75-year-old man was also discovered at the scene with serious stab wounds and was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he is in serious condition.
The body of the deceased remains at the crime scene, which is currently being preserved.
A full forensic examination will be conducted by experts from the Garda Technical Bureau later in the day.
Gardaí have requested the assistance of the state pathologist and a full post-mortem will be carried out at Cork University Hospital (CUH) today (Saturday).
The arrested man is currently held at Gurranabraher Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
