Man killed and one injured after being struck by a train in Meath

One man has died and a second man was injured after they were hit by a train on the Dublin-Belfast route at Gormanston in Co Meath last night.

The incident happened around 21h30 and affected the 20h50 train from Connolly Station en route to Belfast.

The two men were on the tracks near Gormanston station when the train approached.

A man in his 20s died from the injuries he sustained while the second man in his 30s suffered minor injuries.

The victim’s body was taken to the morgue at Navan Hospital.

The train line remained closed for a time after the incident and the train remained at the scene until just after midnight, but full service resumed this morning following the completion of the initial investigation.
