Man praised for kind gesture to delivery driver after order landed 1,000 miles away

A man has been hailed as a ‘hero’ online after a mix-up with his fast food order caused it to end up over 1,000 miles from his home – but he showed nothing but kindness to the delivery driver

After moving 1,000 miles from home, a fast food fan forgot to update his shipping address on an app.

When Shahid Davis ordered a plant-based taco and burrito boat to go for lunch last week (Feb. 27), his meal didn’t end up where he’d hoped.

Instead of being delivered to his doorstep in Haggerston, Maryland, the order was 1,000 miles away in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 29-year-old noticed the mix-up while tracking his food and began to feel guilty for wasting the delivery driver’s time.

Unprepared for the 15-hour journey to get his lunch, Shahid had a better plan.

The kindhearted truck driver contacted the delivery driver and instead offered him his meal to enjoy.

The driver thanked him and painfully revealed that his brother had died but that was his birthday and due to his kindness he would have lunch where he was laid to rest “because of you”.

Shahid said: “On Sunday I just wanted Chipotle for lunch so I went on the app and ordered [food].

“After the app told me it was being delivered, I waited a few minutes.

“I got hungry and [looked on the app] To see how far he’s got so I don’t miss him.

“But when I looked, it showed me he was all the way to Iowa. I was like, ‘Oh man, I forgot the last time I used my Chipotle app was out there’.”

He continued, “When I saw it was going to the wrong address, I reached out to the support team on the Chipotle app to see what I could do about it.

“They said once the order is placed there isn’t really anything I can do about it.

“So I said to the guy, ‘Hey, you can just have this for lunch, enjoy,’ because it’s only $20. It’s no big deal to me.

“He took the time to take my order and walk all the way to the delivery point so I felt bad for feeling like I wasted his time.

“Then I told him lunch was on me and he said ‘thank you.'”

The post reads, “So I forgot to change my address on my Chipotle app so I told the driver to keep it because the old address is back in Iowa.

“I was pissed off at first, but after reading this I’m glad it happened!”

The text exchange is:

Delivery driver wrote: “I’m here with your order.”

Shahid replied, “Take it with you, brother, and enjoy lunch. I forgot to change my address and I’m currently in Maryland.”

Delivery driver wrote: “Um.. ok thanks.

“I wanted to thank you again, today is my brother’s birthday and he is buried not far from where you had me deliver this shipment.

“I’m having lunch with him today because of you. You have no idea how much this really means to me. I really appreciate it.”
