Man remanded in custody for murder after Ballymena man was discovered in driveway of his home

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of another man in Ballymena.

Amadu Saido Djalo, 29, appeared before a district judge on Monday morning accused of killing 63-year-old Victor Hamilton.

Mr Hamilton’s body was discovered in the driveway of his home on Orkney Drive in the town of Co Antrim last Wednesday morning.

Djalo, from Springfield Crescent, Belfast, appeared before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court, which was sitting in Ballymena, via video link from police custody on Musgrave Street, Belfast.

During the brief hearing, he spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges he was facing.

A detective sergeant told the court he could link Djalo to the charges.

Blaine Nugent, representing the defendant, said he was unable to apply for bail on Monday.

He requested that the case be reopened in a week so that bail could be requested.

“Under the circumstances, we are unable to apply for bail today; We expect to be able to do that in a week,” the attorney said.

Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer has remanded Djalo until August 8, when he will appear in court again.

A 33-year-old man who was arrested by Portadown police in the early hours of Sunday on suspicion of Mr Hamilton’s murder remained in custody on Monday morning.
