A father bled to death after being ravaged by his son’s dog while babysitting at his home, an inquest has found.

Keven Jones, 65, drew his last breath and said “I’m going” after being bitten by an American bully named Cookie.

He offered to help look after five dogs while son Josh went to Wembley for a football game.

Ambulance staff tried to save him but efforts to stop the bleeding in his left leg failed – and he was pronounced dead at his son’s home in Wrexham, north Wales.

Coroner John Gittins said police were called to the home by ambulances after the tragedy.

The Home Office pathologist, Dr. Matthew Lyall, gave the preliminary cause of death as blood loss from a leg injury.

Cookie, a two-year-old American Bully, was one of five dogs owned by Mr Jones’ son Josh.

Former truck driver Mr Jones, 65, from Saltney, Cheshire, was asked to look after the dogs because Josh’s partner Chanel Fong had to go out.

Cookie was sedated by a police gunner before being euthanized by a vet.

The coroner adjourned the investigation until a date to be determined when the police could complete their investigation.

He was in the kitchen when his son’s partner, Chanel Fong, 28, overheard him telling the mighty dog, “Get off me.”

Chanel rushed into the room to tell Cookie to come down – but then he spotted blood pouring from Keven’s leg.

Emergency services rushed to the scene while Chanel frantically performed CPR.

Chanel was left with blood soaked hands when Keven was later pronounced dead.

The family say the dog is “not the least bit aggressive” but loved playing like he was a little puppy.

Paying tribute to Chanel, she wrote online: “I heard Kev say get off me Cookie…so I went into the kitchen and told Cookie to get off, which he did.

“Anyone who has come into contact with Cookie knows what a big fat head playboy he is.

“He’s not aggressive at all.

“He just thinks he’s a little puppy and hops around rather than walks.

“Kev said ‘He took me there’ and when I looked down there was blood pumping from Kev’s leg.

“I took Cookie’s blanket out of his box to try to stop the wound from bleeding.

“I carried him to the sofa and called the ambulance.

“Kev was with me but didn’t respond, he grabbed my shoulder and told me he was leaving.

“I told him he wasn’t and the call handler told me to put him on the floor and do compressions.

“It took seven minutes for the emergency services to get to us.

“It felt like I was doing compressions for an hour.

“I would like to thank North Wales Ambulance, Air Ambulance, North Wales Police and their specialist team for dealing with dogs.

“But after working on Keven for 45 minutes, he didn’t take another breath.”

Son Josh went to London to see his beloved Wrexham team play in the Non-League Cup final at Wembley – and asked Keven to help look after their dogs.

“Today was the worst day of my life,” added Chanel.

“I had to watch two men I love so much draw their last breath.

“I can’t shake the feeling of Keven’s blood off my hands and all I hear in my head is Cookie’s screams.

“Cookie didn’t attack Keven, he’s a big boy and plays too rough.

“Please respect Josh and his family, me and my family at this absolutely heartbreaking time.

“Cookie was put down in the back garden by a qualified vet and the other dogs were examined by the canine care team, our special girl Fire was taken as she is of athletic build but they were happy with the rest and they are all pulled up in bed .

“RIP my sweet silly boy Cookie-Doe and forever rest in peace with a beer my awesome father-in-law Keven Jones aka Odde.”

A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said: “The dog was locked securely within the property and was euthanized by a vet.”
