Man struck unprovoked on Littlehampton beach

A MAN was subjected to an unprovoked attack and his bag was stolen while sitting on the beach.

The victim, a local man in his 40s, was sitting on Littlehampton beach near Harbor Park Amusements when he was approached from behind by an unidentified man.

The attacker threw sand in the man’s face and hit him.

The suspect picked up a rock and attempted to continue attacking the victim before stealing his bag and running away from the scene.

He also took the victim’s shoes, which he dropped a short distance away.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday 24 August.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, of stocky build, with short dark hair. He wore a black or dark vest top.

Bognor Neighborhood Response Team PC Mark Linberry said: “This was an unprovoked attack in a public area.

“People were seen nearby, some filming with their cellphones.

“I urge anyone who witnessed or caught the incident to get in touch with us.”
