A MAN was seen throwing bricks from a roof while wearing just his underwear – before turning himself in to police “in exchange for a cigarette”.
The man, wearing only Calvin Klein trousers, was seen throwing bricks from the roof of a six storey building in Lansdowne Road, Hove, yesterday afternoon.
The standoff lasted more than three hours, and a police negotiator attempted to bring the unidentified man down.
He is said to have finally come down from the roof in exchange for a cigarette.
A witness told The Argus he called out a “chanting list of prisons he thought he might be sent to”.
He can be heard saying “f*** you” before shouting “Take me to Wandsworth, High Down,” two prisons in the South East.
It was alleged that one of the tiles smashed a window in a nearby apartment.
The witness added: “He came down alone with the arrangement of a cigarette. If only it had been sooner.”
The man was seen with a cigarette in his mouth after being handcuffed by officers.
The road was reopened after the incident.
Sussex Police have been asked for comment.
