Rangnick is hoping to finally meet new Man Utd boss ten Hag

In many ways, the 2021/22 season is long over for Manchester United fans.

The Red Devils were last in action two weeks ago when they were defeated 4-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion. The embarrassing nature of the performance and the disappointment of the season as a whole means many have understandably checked out.

United are set to take on Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 final at Selhurst Park and with manager-in-waiting Erik ten Hag set to watch from the stands it will be fascinating to see how the players perform.

mirror sport has all your latest United headlines ahead of Sunday’s encounter, which promises to be a fascinating summer for the fallen Premier League giants.

Which position do United need to strengthen the most this summer? Let us know in the comments section below!

Raphinha’s interest arises

Ten Hag is reportedly keen on signing Leeds United winger Raphinha as part of his Old Trafford rebuild.

The Brazil international has been struggling to find his best form in recent weeks, despite showing plenty of quality during his time at Elland Road. With the Yorkshire club in danger of being relegated from the top flight, it will be a challenge for Jesse Marsch to keep them.

United are said to be keen to add another option down the right flank and Raphinha’s ability to slice inwards with his left foot from that position would give the team a different attacking dynamic.

Ten Hag to oversee the eviction

After arriving in England on Wednesday, Ten Hag is said to be ready to gut the United squad this summer.

The Red Devils have one of the most expensively put together rosters in world football, despite a number of big names underperforming in the group this season. Ten Hag is said to be keen to see the team in action themselves.

It’s understood that the new manager’s priority is to strengthen the backbone of the side, with a centre-back, a central midfielder and a centre-forward on his transfer wish list.

Nemanja Matic is expected to move on when his contract expires and nine others could potentially follow the veteran midfielder out the Old Trafford exit door.

Nunez says ‘no’ to United

Benfica’s sought-after centre-forward Darwin Nunez has reportedly turned down the chance to be part of Ten Hag’s rebuild at Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan has excelled for the Lisbon giants this season, impressing both domestically and in the Champions League. As well as his fatal touch in front of goal – he has scored 34 times in all competitions this season – the 22-year-old is dynamic, hard-working and a strong link-up player.

Despite seemingly being ideal for the Premier League, he won’t play for United, according to RMC Sport.

The Red Devils have reportedly made a £68million offer to Nunez despite him reportedly wanting to continue playing in the Champions League next season as well.
