Conte says Tottenham are ‘motivated’ by Arsenal defeat

Tottenham Hotspurs Hopes of a top-four finish this season may have been badly damaged Matt Dohertys Knee injury at the end of the campaign.

Corresponding, Doherty has already had scans on his knee and they have since revealed the defender tore his medial collateral ligament in his knee – leaving him sidelined for at least 12 weeks. While that’s a blow to Spurs, it also means the right-back has little if any chance of representing his country at Nations League games in June.

It remains unclear if Doherty will undergo surgery as part of his knee rehabilitation as part of his rehabilitation but the news comes as a huge blow to Conte, who is clearly a big fan of the right-back. Asked for comment on the severity of the blow after the Villa game, the Spurs boss insisted on how important the Irishman is to his side.

“I hope nothing serious, I hope,” said the Spurs boss on Saturday. “The doctors will examine him tomorrow. I hope nothing serious because he wanted to try to continue playing but in the end he preferred to come out. I hope so because Matthew is an important player for us and I hope so .” Injury is not serious.”

In Doherty’s absence, Spurs will now have to rely on Brazil international Emerson Royal, who has had a mixed start in north London after joining the club from FC in the summer Barcelona. With seven games remaining, Spurs are firmly in the driver’s seat as it seeks to secure a coveted fourth place finish.

Arsenal are three points behind their north London neighbors by a smaller goal difference but still have a game ahead of Spurs. The situation is bleaker for United who are now six points behind Conte’s side after playing the same number of games.
