RALF RANGNICK has singled out Scott McTominay as ‘exemplary’ for his performance at Brentford.
The Scot starred in Manchester United’s midfield in West London before being replaced by Nemanja Matic in the final six minutes.
And interim boss Rangnick was quick to heap praise on the 25-year-old, calling his performance ‘contagious’.
The German said: “Scott McTominay is a role model, a real leader and that has the potential to spread positivity to other players, then we can get some counter-attacks. , the second and third goals were really good with Bruno Fernandes’ assist.
“He was not happy with his own tackle decision. It would have been more difficult for us if it was 1-1 in that situation.
“In the first half we were first and second in most aspects of the game, sloppy passing, missing 50-50s and barely winning a second ball.
“We were tense on the counter-attack and fortunately in the first half it was a draw.
“Some Great saves again from David De Gea and we showed a different side in the second half.

“We’ve talked about what we need to do, raising our fitness requirements and standards but our wingers will stay wider to pin their full-backs. “
McTominay made 68 touches, 47 passes, 11 recoveries and 6 dribbles at Brentford Community Stadium.
But it was goals from Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and sub-Marcus Rashford that finally sent off the impressive Ong, who had belatedly received solace through Ivan Toney.
However, Rangnick will be hoping another aspect of United’s win isn’t contagious, though, after Cristiano Ronaldo sulked when he was knocked down.
The Reds manager added: “Ronaldo said, ‘Why me, why did you take me away?” I say I have to make decisions for the team, for the club.
“Perhaps in a few years as a coach he will understand. Unexpectedly he hugged me after being subjugated.”
“I know how the scorers think and how they mark, but I have to make my decisions for the good of the team. I have no problem with Cristiano.
“I told him we were 2-0 up and we had to learn lessons from Villa Park. After that game, I was angry with myself for not switching to next year’s team. .
“I don’t want to make the same mistakes again.”
