Manchester United ended their 389 days of waiting for a Premier League goal from a corner on Sunday, when Harry Maguire nods in agreement against Leeds at Elland Road.

The last time United converted from a corner was on January 27, when Maguire equalized against his former club Sheffield United in a 2-1 loss at home.

Many things have happened since that fateful day in Manchester – including the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s 5-0 win at Old Trafford.

Referring to Ronaldo, the Portuguese icon appeared for the first time Premier League match against Leeds since 18 October 2003 – 18 years 125 days ago.

No player in league history has had to wait longer to make his next appearance against a particular club. It is proof of Ronaldo’s incredible longevity at the top.

Maguire’s opening goal against Leeds came from United’s 139th Premier League corner this season. Only four teams have enjoyed more corners this term.

Asked about United’s shock record from corners earlier this month, caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick said: “It’s actually a bit weird.

“Ultimately, this is a question of training time, but also a question of serving. We have players who have to have the technique to serve properly.

“We still need to improve in those areas [and] More dangerous and more effective from the puzzle pieces.

“It’s a matter of training but it’s also a matter of the quality of the serves – even more so when it’s free-kicks or corners.”

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has now made 925 appearances for the club since turning professional and will aim to hit the 1,000-game mark before his illustrious career ends.

The United legend has scored a remarkable 689 goals for the club – one less than longtime rival and Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi.

Both players hope to hit 700 points before the season ends. Ronaldo also only needs seven goals to become the newest member of the Premier League’s 100 club list.

Talk about your longevity at the beginning of this year“Genetically, I feel like I’m 30 years old,” Ronaldo said. I take great care of my body and mind.

“One thing I learned recently is that after the age of 33, I believe the body can provide if you need it, but the real battle is the spirit.

“Going through a lot of things with the end goal of staying in top form is the hardest thing, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past few years.

“I’m working and focusing more on mental work. I know my body will handle me because I respect it a lot and I listen to it a lot.

“I want to find out if I’m going to play until I’m 40, 41 or 42, but the most important thing is my daily goal is to enjoy this moment.”

United went on to beat Leeds 4-2 after goals from Bruno FernandesFred, Anthony Elanga and – as previously mentioned – Maguire.
