RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku is reportedly looking to leave the club this summer after an incredible campaign that could give Manchester United a lifeline in their pursuit of the striker.

Ralf Rangnick is a huge fan of the Frenchman but was baffled by the lack of information on offer at Old Trafford in relation to his profile. The German was angry that Nkunku had been overlooked by the scouting department and changes had already been made to the department before Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

The Red Devils have turned their attention to Nkunku after a sensational season with RB Leipzig where he was incredible in front of goal. In 49 appearances in all competitions, the Frenchman has scored 32 goals and provided 20 assists. What has also impressed the long list of interested clubs across the continent is his versatility. The 24-year-old has played in Leipzig under current coach Dominic Tedesco in attack, in attacking midfield and on both flanks in a fluid system.

According to BILD, Nkunku made the decision to leave the Bundesliga side this summer as he wants to take the “next step” in his career. That would be the end of his three-year stay in Germany near Leipzig, and there was no lack of interest throughout Europe. United have been linked with a potential move ahead of the summer transfer window, but Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have also taken a closer look at the striker. Rangnick is a known admirer of the player as he prepares to step down from his role as interim manager at the end of the season.

But the Red Devils may need an overhaul of their scouting department with Rangnick already falling victim to their mistakes. According to ESPN, the Germany coach was angry about the lack of data in January. The former Red Bull boss wanted to add to United’s squad in January but was shocked when the club’s scouts told him they were not pursuing the Nkunku.

And since then there have been some major changes in their administration. Longtime associates Jim Lawlor and Marcel Bout left United last month, while Matt Judge, the club’s head of football negotiations, will leave Old Trafford later this year. However, whether Rangnick’s anger played a role remains to be seen.

However, it does mean there will be some drastic changes to the club’s scouting system ahead of Erik ten Hag’s appointment at the end of the season. In truth, it’s been a long time coming after a string of mistakes in the transfer window.

But with Nkunku looking to continue and United want a fresh start, the two could be a match made in heaven, while Ten Hag could be the perfect manager for the France international. The Dutchman has a very special style of football that he wants his team to play.

And that would suit the former Paris Saint-Germain ace whose fluid movement would be beneficial to most teams on the planet. The new United boss wants to keep Cristiano Ronaldo and using the in-form pair in attack could prove a daunting prospect in the Premier League.
