Haidara has worked with the German, 63, at RB Leipzig – with Rangnick reportedly keen to reunite at Old Trafford.

But according to Letters, Newcastle want to prevent potential move.

Toon sees Haidara as a potential leader for this group, beyond this season’s relegation battle.

But they may have to pay more to convince the 23-year-old to join.

Newcastle would gladly let him become their highest-paid player at around £160,000 a week.

Even with this salary, the midfielder may not be convinced of their project.

Haidara’s contract is said to have a £33m release clause.

He is currently in Cameroon playing in the Africa Cup of Nations against Mali.

Kieran Trippier was for 12 million pounds from Atlético Madrid.

While Toon matched Chris Wood’s Burnley is worth £25m Release amount.

The Magpies also have open chat through the switch to 19-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike of Reims
