The Dutchman has become the front runner for the top job at Old Trafford after a series of meetings with United bosses in recent weeks. But the Ajax manager continues to drag his heels about the role as he seeks certain reassurances.

It comes as Ten Hag’s feelings towards potential transfer target Darwin Nunez have become clear. And it has emerged that United could evade their release clause at Ajax – with a possible announcement date being revealed

Manchester United could avoid Erik ten Hag’s release clause at Ajax due to the good relationship between the two clubs, they say.

Former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is managing director of the Johan Cruijff ArenA and a number of Dutch players have played for both sides. Amid ongoing speculation over Ten Hag’s appointment at Old Trafford, the Dutch side have banned English media from attending the manager’s press conference as they focus on a crucial few weeks in which they aim to clinch a league and cup double.

And reports suggest United will “happily respect” Ajax’s upcoming cup final against PSV Eindhoven on April 17, meaning an announcement could come after that game.

Ten Hag’s reasons for delaying

Erik ten Hag wants reassurances he will have a say in transfers as he continues to await Manchester United’s job offer.

An offer has already been made for the Ajax boss but he has yet to accept the offer as he is unsure of how much say he will have in the club’s rebuilding. The Dutchman has also been targeted by RB Leipzig and is said to take the German club’s offer seriously.

Ten Hag has also named three staff members he would like to bring with him to Old Trafford – with whom the club has not yet made any arrangements. It all boils down to Ten Hag being a little on their heels when it comes to accepting United’s offer.

Darwin Nunez could be on Erik ten Hag’s transfer wish list ahead of a summer of upheaval at Manchester United.

Ten Hag want a say in the players the club fields as they plan a major overhaul of their squad to field them back Champions League Dispute. United have sent scouts to watch Nunez in recent weeks, with staff reportedly present when he scored against Liverpool in their last Champions League match.

With that game coming after talks with Ten Hag over the United manager position, Nunez could be a name the Dutchman has mentioned during talks and is looking to bring in this summer.
