The Dutchman has now signed up for duty at Old Trafford and will succeed Ralf Rangnick on the hotseat after Sunday’s final Premier League game against Crystal Palace. Ten Hag is expected to begin a major overhaul of his squad with plenty of transfer activity expected at the club this summer.

But the new United boss has hinted that Ajax duo Antony and Jurrien Timber may not follow him from Holland to the Premier League club. It comes as Frenkie de Jong has promised Barcelona his future after being linked with a move to United.

And Erik ten Hag has warned former United players over criticism they may send to the club through the media.

Ajax reunion off

Erik ten Hag’s former Ajax players Antony and Jurrien Timber may not join Manchester United, the club’s new manager has suggested.

The club’s board are ready to back their new boss in the transfer market this summer, with plenty of new arrivals expected after Ten Hag’s arrival on Monday. And the Dutchman has hinted the club could face stiff competition for Timber from ‘all the top clubs in Europe’.

And he’s also hinted he might not move for Antony as it would be ‘a loss’ for his former side.

De Jong is snubbed

Another former player who Erik ten Hag managed at Ajax could also turn away from the club, with Frenkie de Jong assuring his future at current club Barcelona.

Midfield is seen as a key area for improvement at United this summer and Ten Hag is reportedly keen on getting his former player to solve the club’s problems in the middle of the park. However, reports suggest that the player has told Barcelona about his desire to stay at the Camp Nou beyond the summer.

The news will come as a blow to Ten Hag as he sets about transforming his squad this summer.

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has warned the club’s legendary former players that he won’t let their public criticism sway him next season.

The Old Trafford club have struggled with their problems on the pitch this season and have often been criticized by United legends who have since become pundits such as Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes. Ten Hag has now responded to questions about the impact of these types of behind-the-scenes comments, insisting they “should never have any impact on the dressing room”.

And the new United boss also says he’s “been getting more and more baggage on how to deal with certain powers”.
