Manchester United’s plans to appoint Ajax boss Erik ten Hag could be jeopardized if RB Leipzig try to hijack their bid.
United bosses have made progress with plans to appoint Ten Hag as the next permanent boss at Old Trafford after being impressed in interviews with the Dutchman. But the appointment could fall apart as Leipzig are set to offer the Ajax manager a bank-breaking contract.
It also comes after reports that Ten Hag is ready to snub the club if he isn’t assured he will be empowered to put his own stamp on the club’s squad. And the Red Devils have reportedly opted for a three-man transfer shortlist to ease their midfield woes.

Midfield shortlist created
Manchester United reportedly have a three-man shortlist of midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Old Trafford side face a busy summer as they plan to appoint a new manager and begin an overhaul of their squad, with a new midfielder widely seen as a top priority. And they are said to have England internationals Kalvin Phillips, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice on their wish list.
But any deal would face potential difficulties in getting across the line.
Ten Hag’s Ultimatum
Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly given Manchester United an ultimatum during negotiations for the Dutchman to become the club’s next manager.
The 52-year-old reportedly wants to change the profile of the United squad if he gets the job of manager at Old Trafford and is keen to hire players better suited to the high-pressing style he is hoping to implement. And if Ten Hag doesn’t think United are ready to provide him with the players he wants, the Dutchman is said to be ready to turn down the club’s offer for him.
RB Leipzig to nosedive
German club RB Leipzig are trying to hijack Manchester United’s appointment of Erik ten Hag.
The Bundesliga side believe they can turn the club into a competitor nationally and internationally and have also been in talks with the Ajax boss for a few weeks. During this time, Ten Hag was also interviewed by United bosses and became the overwhelming favorite for the Old Trafford job.
But the Red Devils now risk losing their number one target as Leipzig prepare a bank-breaking bid for the Dutchman.
