Reason for Pochettino snub
United bosses diverted their attention from PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino over concerns over his ‘lack of trophies’.
The former Spurs manager was a first frontrunner for the United job alongside Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who has reached a verbal agreement to succeed Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford. But senior figures have cast doubt on Pochettino’s “lack of trophies” as the PSG boss had only won one French Cup and one domestic Super Cup in his tenure as manager.
The same figures are said to have been very impressed with Ten Hag’s ability to build two great Ajax sides – as well as the two Dutch league and cup victories he has won.
Scouting mission started
Manchester United scouts will reportedly travel to Argentina this week to take a look at a player who could become Erik ten Hag’s first signing at Old Trafford.
Reports from Argentina suggest United are keen on River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who contributed to six goals in 10 games in 2022. The versatile midfielder is said to have written a £16million release clause in his contract and his entourage have reportedly already held talks with United Chiefs.
But they could face competition for his signature as the player is also said to be in talks with Spanish giants real Madrid.
Ten Hag’s Five Year Plan
United bosses have been impressed with Erik ten Hag’s five-year plan for the club after he revealed his vision for the club in an interview for the manager’s job.
The plans were put to United football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher as they held talks with the Ajax manager. The Dutchman faces a monumental task when he arrives at Old Trafford and Mirror Football have taken a look at what his five-year plan will entail.
