Dutch manager and former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has disclosed his prostate cancer diagnosis and revealed he has undergone 25 treatments

Manchester United have sent a supportive message to former manager Louis van Gaal after the Dutchman revealed that he has prostate cancer .
VanGaal said on Dutch television he had been battling cancer for some time but kept his diagnosis a secret. The 70-year-old is the coach of the Netherlands national team, which he will lead to the World Cup later this year.
“During my time as manager of the national team, I always had to leave at night to go to the hospital without the players finding out until now,” he told Dutch program Humberto while promoting his new film LOUIS. While I thought I was healthy, but…I’m not.”
Van Gaal managed United between 2014 and 2016 and won the FA Cup before they are replaced by Jose Mourinho. “All at Manchester United fully supports our former manager Louis van Gaal in his battle with cancer,” the club wrote on social media. “I send you strength and courage, Louis.”
Van Gaal explained that he had already been treated 25 times for prostate cancer but initially chose to hide it from his players. “I think you don’t say it that way to the people you work with because it might affect their decisions and their resolve,” he said.
“So I figured they shouldn’t know. You don’t die from prostate cancer, at least not 90 percent of the time. It’s usually other underlying conditions that kill you. But I was in a pretty aggressive form, I was irradiated.” 25 times, then you have a lot to manage to get through life.

“I received preferential treatment in the hospital. I was allowed in through the back door for an appointment and was immediately moved to another room. I was treated wonderfully. You will, of course, tell your friends and relatives about it. The fact that nothing has come out yet also says something about my environment. That’s great.”
Van Gaal is one of the most successful managers of modern times, having held prominent positions over the past 30 years. He made his name at Ajax between 1991 and 1997, where he led the team in succession Champions League final and won the competition in 1995.
He went on Barcelona, where he won two La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey and also found success with Bayern Munich, winning the Bundesliga and German Cup. Van Gaal is now in his third spell as Netherlands coach.
The Dutchman won 54 of his 103 games as United manager but only finished fourth and fifth First League. His crowning glory with the club came in the FA Cup, where they batted crystal palace 2-1 in extra time at Wembley Stadium.
