A woman who accused Premier League footballer Benjamin Mendy of rape danced with him hours after the alleged attack, a court has been told.
CTV footage from a nightclub on the day of the alleged rape, played to a jury at Chester Crown Court yesterday, showed the woman dancing against the Manchester City left-back.
Another clip from the same night showed the woman placing her hand on the 28-year-old’s neck as they appeared to be exchanging words on the dance floor.
Earlier that day, in July 2021, the court was told Mendy raped the woman during a gathering at his villa, The Spinney, in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, North West England.
She recalled the alleged incident in a taped police interview played to a jury and said she was invited to Mendy’s house, where people drank and played games.
She said he tried to “talk” her into having sex and despite giving him “every excuse” had to “give in”.
Before the alleged rape, which she claimed lasted 20 seconds, Mendy told the woman, “It’s small, don’t worry.”
The woman said she felt “dirty” and used most of a pack of baby wipes to try to clean herself after the incident, the jury heard.
She didn’t report the rape to police until she was contacted by officers after other allegations surfaced because “it was like word against word” and she was “really scared,” adding that “these people have power whether you like it or not”. was reported to the court.
Eleanor Laws QC, who defended Mendy, questioned the woman about the footage and suggested she was “physically comfortable” with him despite the alleged assault.
The woman replied: “I wouldn’t say I was physically comfortable in his company, I just hadn’t processed everything that had happened.
“I was very drunk and I just did what everyone else was doing — I pretended nothing happened.”
Ms Laws said: “No one in this club would suggest to you that you had to rub your butt and dance to someone you didn’t want to.”
“No,” the woman replied. She later explained, “I danced with everyone. Everyone danced with everyone.”
The court saw another clip that appeared to show the woman approaching and speaking to Mendy as he exited the club.
The jury was told she returned to the footballer’s home two days later after being invited by another man, although Mendy was not present. Ms. Laws turned to the woman and said, “You wouldn’t want to go near after what happened.” The woman replied, “Not alone, no.”
Mendy denies eight counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault against seven young women.
Co-accused Louis Saha Matturie (41), the footballer’s friend and fixer, is said to have had the job of finding young women for sex.
Matturie, from Eccles, Salford, North West England, denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault involving eight young women.
Both men say all sex was consensual.
Prosecutors allege Mendy is a “predator” who “turned the pursuit of sex into a game for women.”
The process goes on.
