Manchester City ‘open official talks with Brighton’ over Marc Cucurella transfer

MANCHESTER CITY are said to be ready to start “official talks” with Albion over Marc Cucurella’s transfer.

The Spanish defender has been linked with the Premier League champions all summer, with manager Pep Guardiola making him a top target.

A transfer could now accelerate as City are set to sell Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and require a replacement, confirmed by Pep Guardiola.

He said: “On behalf of the club, I say our thanks on and off the pitch. It was nice yesterday with Oleks [Zinchencko] because we could say goodbye properly.

“Unfortunately Gabi [Gabriel Jesus] and Rahem [Sterling] couldn’t, but with him we could and he’s going to Arsenal.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that they are ready to start talks with Albion over a move.

He has also hinted that the defender is close to reaching an agreement with the club.

He said: “Manchester City are finally set to open official talks with Brighton for Marc Cucurella, the offer is coming.

“Full verbal agreement reached on almost personal terms.

“Cucurella has always been Pep’s priority this summer and City will now press after Zinchenko’s sale.”

No offer has yet been made from Albion’s perspective and if it does, The Argus believe it will take an offer in excess of £50m for a deal to go through.

Cucurella is well-regarded at the club and was named Albion Player of the Year for his performances last season when he impressed in his debut campaign in England.

Albion’s manager Graham Potter, who is currently with the defender as the team prepares for the season, recently praised Cucurella’s attitude of staying focused on the job amid all the speculation about his future

He told Sky Sports: “He’s training really, really well.

“He’s a very popular member of the group. Everyone loves him, so he just trains and plays normally.

“I mean, part of being a footballer you have to deal with speculation. It’s not something you can control but he was just a top professional.”

In recent days City have been linked with other left-backs as some outlets reported they are ready to turn their attention to other targets should they fail to agree on a deal with Albion.

One option that has been mentioned is Borna Sosa from Bundesliga side Stuttgart, who are believed to be priced at £20million. Manchester City ‘open official talks with Brighton’ over Marc Cucurella transfer
