BILLIONAIRE Mark Zuckerberg has revealed three new changes for your WhatsApp.
The tech tycoon – which owns WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram – announced the shock update aimed at boosting your “protection” online.
One of the best features is the ability to leave groups silently.
This means you can leave a group chat without notifying everyone.
“New privacy features for WhatsApp,” Zuckerberg explained.
“Leave group chats without notifying everyone; control who can see when you’re online and prevent screenshots of messages that can only be viewed once.
“We will continue to develop new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations.”
There are three new app updates in total.
That First is the ability to leave groups silently.
When you leave a group, you won’t see the usual notification, but group admins will still be notified.
This feature will be rolling out to all users worldwide this month.
That second is a WhatsApp “stealth mode” that allows you to choose who can see that you are online.
“Seeing when friends or family are online helps us feel connected,” says WhatsApp.
“But we’ve all had times when we wanted to check our WhatsApp privately.
“For those times when you want to keep your online presence private, we’re introducing the ability to choose who can and can’t see when you’re online.”
This feature will also be rolled out starting this month.
And the third is blocking screenshots for messages that can only be viewed once.
That means WhatsApp will stop people from taking screenshots of self-destructive texts – to boost privacy.
However, it’s not waterproof: someone could use a second device to take a picture of your message.
But it’s a good step in the right direction when it comes to protecting your privacy.
“No other global messaging service of this scale offers this level of security for its users’ messages, media, voice messages, video calls and chat backups,” said Ami Vora, Head of Product at WhatsApp.
“Over the years we’ve added interlocking layers of protection to protect their conversations.
“And the new features are one way we continue to deliver on our commitment to keep messages private.
“We believe WhatsApp is the safest place to have a private conversation.”
