Mark Zuckerberg, 37, is reportedly planning to launch digital coins and tokens to boost his meta-company as Facebook and Instagram’s popularity plummets.

Apparently, bosses prefer some sort of in-app token that they can control centrally, similar to the Roblox game.

Insiders said so financial times that employees internally christened the currency “Zuck Bucks”.

It comes like Experts estimate around 5 billion To transport users to the metaverse by 2030, creating a $8 trillion (£6.1 trillion) to $13 trillion (£9.9 trillion) money-making opportunity, with Zuckerberg as a potential leader.

Social tokens and reputation tokens are other ideas being considered for rewarding people who post something meaningful in a Facebook group.

There could also be “Creator Coins” specifically for influencers on Instagram.

It’s the Facebook owner’s latest attempt to get into the money game after their misfortune Diem cryptocurrency failed.

The tech giant abandoned the blockchain-based system – formerly known as Libra – over complicated financial rules.

Digital tokens don’t require as much regulation, so seem like a good way to sidestep complaints.

The Metaverse is an evolving virtual and augmented reality digital space where we could one day work, socialize and, if Zuckerberg has his way, spend money too.

We’ve already seen a lot of things from the real world, including restaurants like Chipotle, casinos, and even the Metaverse’s own fashion week.

The Facebook founder is betting his company’s future on the Metaverse so much that he renamed it Meta.

But when the plans broke last year, he suggested it be a community project, describing it as the “embodied internet”.
