A reality TV star today revealed how she saved her ex’s life by donating one of her kidneys.
Marilyse Corrigan lived with jeweler Shaun Bell for eight years and had two children with him before they split in 2012.
The personal trainer went on to appear on The Only Way Is Essex before joining E4’s Married at First Sight – forging a bond with fellow contestant Franky Spencer on last year’s series.
But Marilyse, 38, remained friends with Shaun, 40, after he moved out of the family home while they were apart.
And when he told her he needed an urgent transplant, she didn’t think about making a donation to save the father of their sons Josh, 13, and Callum, 16.
Although Marilyse was not a match for him, she was able to donate to another sufferer as part of a scheme where Shaun would receive a kidney from another living donor.

Now in a joint interview on World Kidney Day, Shaun said: “I am very grateful to Marilyse. She gave me the chance to live a normal life. That is a good thing to do. “
Marilyse tells how the two learn Shaun might need a transplant one day when they’re together. He had been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease years earlier.
Marilyse said: “I told him I would run tests if a donor was needed. “But we broke up and it was only when he was on dialysis that I knew how sick he was. I lost my dad when I was 16 and I don’t want the same thing to happen to the boys. I felt it was my duty to step in. He is the father of my children – they love him as they love me.
“Also, I came across Josh on Google searching to see if he was old enough to donate one of his small organs. That really concerns me. ”

Shaun’s condition began to deteriorate in 2019 and doctors warned that his kidneys had ‘disappeared completely’. He was put on dialysis and joined the list of donors.
In September of that year, Marilyse, of Beverley, East Yorks, reached out to doctors to see if she could help her ex-partner.
She explained: “I surprised him with the forms I had filled out. “He was really choked up. The kids then texted me and said, ‘why are you crying?’
Shaun said: “I was bowed. I’m resigned to having to wait for an organ donor so it’s amazing that Marilyse did what she did.” Last fall, she finally received a call saying she had found a match for Shaun.
“I never thought ‘what am I doing?’, she said. “That day, when the kids got home from school, I called Shaun to tell him the good news. When the children heard it, they cried because of happiness.”
On November 9, Callum’s 16th birthday, Marilyse and Shaun went to Leeds General Infirmary to conduct their joint activities. Marilyse said: “I was nervous, but I knew it was the right thing to do.
“I was in a lot of pain afterwards. I felt like I was hit by a bus, but that was nothing compared to what I was doing for Shaun. ” Four months on, both feel great and Shaun feels relieved to no longer depend on dialysis. “It feels like I’ve been given a new life,” he said.
Marilyse broke up with husband Franky on the TV show. But she and Shaun, who are both single, say that while the kidney donation has made them stronger as co-parents, there has been no chance of reconciliation. “We have a good relationship,” says Marilyse.
“We are friends. Shaun will always be family. He is the father of my children.”
