Martin Compston has revealed that fictional archaeologist Indiana Jones was one of his first inspirations to become an actor.
The Line of Duty star said watching the 1981 classic Raiders of the Lost Ark in theaters was one of the first times he appreciated the “power of cinema”.
It comes after the recent release of the trailer for the fifth installment in the blockbuster franchise, Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny, in which veteran actor Harrison Ford once again reprises his famous role. .
Speaking on The One Show about his early inspirations, Compston said, “I’m an Indiana Jones fanatic.”
“I think it was one of those moments in the cinema… I still (think of) when he got out of that submarine and he said ‘Where’s Indy?’… and it came on and the music came on. rise.
“I think it was one of the firsts for me about the power of cinema (it can be done), that’s everything about it, its scope.”
The new Indiana Jones 5 trailer shows off some scenes with an aging Harrison Ford, as well as action-packed sequences as he rides his horse through a crowded city and onto underground tracks.
Portions of the film, including the horseback chase, were shot in Glasgow, near Greenock, Compston’s hometown, in Scotland.
The actor said: “To see the new trailer and he’s going to ride through Glasgow the night before, it’s been a lot of fun.
“Our industry is thriving right now… I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Compston will next appear in the new TV series Mayflies, which starts on BBC One on December 28.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which also stars Phoebe Waller Bridge, is set to premiere on June 30.
