Martin Roberts provides information about “Mercy Dash” to Ukraine

Martin Roberts was left “heartbroken” after providing vital assistance to Ukrainian families in Poland.

The Homes Under the Hammer star went viral earlier this month when he shared a video of himself sobbing in front of Costco after they refused to let him buy Calpol in bulk to send to kids, who fled the war-torn country after an invasion by Russian forces.

Martin wanted to donate as much of the essential supplies as possible to local organizations that were sending aid to Ukraine and surrounding countries – including Poland – that are hosting people fleeing the war.

Feeling helpless, he was contacted by an organization called Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine, and Martin eventually volunteered to drive the supplies more than 1,260 miles in his Volkswagen van to the Polish-Ukrainian border from Medyka.

The TV presenter drove more than 2,000 kilometers to Poland in his own van

“I said, ‘Well, when are you leaving?’ and they said tomorrow morning at 9am. That was 6 p.m. They had planned this for weeks and I had less than 12 hours. But now that I was told, I had to do it!” he said OK! magazine .

Martin received life-saving equipment for delivery, including defibrillators, children’s heart rate monitors and saline IVs, and managed to end the arduous journey – driving through France, Holland, Germany and Poland – eating sweets and drinking Red Bull.

“I was just a man on a mission. It’s not a walk in the park,” admitted Martin.

In Medyka he was able to hand over the supplies, which they then transported to hospitals in the Ukrainian city of Lviv, which was being bombarded by Russian missiles.

Undeterred by the terrible conflict, Martin defiantly declared, “I would have gone to that war zone.”

He then spoke about his experience visiting a refugee center at the border and said he was heartbroken after speaking to a boy who was the same age as his son back home in the UK.

After the brave journey, he was heartbroken

“I have a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old, so it was difficult seeing kids my age with the clothes they were standing up in and maybe a little backpack and that was it,” he shared and admitted it was “heartbreaking” to see the children.

The TV star said he gifted a teenager a soccer ball and although he thought it was a “silly little gesture”, Martin was left speechless when he tried to offer the boy a few words of encouragement.

“I had that football, it was a silly little gesture, but I gave it to him and explained that I have a son at home the same age as him and I just wanted to say, ‘The world knows you and thinks of you and does what it can to help,'” he added.
