Martyn Ford has gained 9 pounds in less than a week, despite claiming he is in his “fittest shape ever” as he continues to train for a potential boxing debut.
The British star is currently training in hopes of finding a new opponent for his boxing debut after his fight with Iranian Hulk – real name Sajad Gharibi – was put on hold at short notice. Ford lost 60 pounds to be in perfect shape to compete in martial arts, but claimed he was “taller than ever” after gaining more muscle.
Ford has since posted an update for fans on Instagram, posting a picture at the gym with the caption, “‘How’s the workout going?’ Me: “Oh yeah amazing, I feel fitter than ever.” “How much weight have you lost?” Me: ‘Mmmm, I gained 9 pounds in six days.’
“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I try to limit my carbs. I’ve been eating for appetite and performance, and the weight has skyrocketed over the past few weeks. That just goes to show how important fuel is.”
Ford previously claimed he’s “never looked so skinny” despite gaining weight again and weighing around 322 pounds. He has been training with boxing and MMA training since his previous scheduled fight with Gharibi was canceled after he was “frustrated” at losing six months of dedicated preparation.
The 39-year-old limited his weightlifting in exchange for boxing technique and endurance training due to his prep time at the height of training camp. However, Ford has since confirmed he remains in training in anticipation of a rescheduled debut, despite reducing his active sparring.

“I’m a bit frustrated and bored. But I keep ticking and doing what I can to keep myself active and busy,” Ford said. “Focus is what matters when you’ve prepared for something and you’re not able to go out and do it with work do that i have to put into it is frustrating. For me it means to find something as soon as possible to put that energy into something.
“I’m still training, I just don’t do active sparring. I switched back to its resistance and explosive power. If something happens that I hope I can sign up for early, I’ve been training and putting so much time and effort into it. I have to do it for my own mental state, to be honest anyone who has trained at a good level in any sport will understand the frustration I’m going through at the moment.”
Ford has a number of options on the table for a possible debut, including a fight with Iceland strongman Thor Bjornsson, who just beat Eddie Hall. He’s also exploring the possibility of an MMA debut later this year after holding talks with Polish promotion KSW about appearing on their planned October card in London.
