Martyn Ford knocks down the Iranian Hulk during the faceoff

Martyn Ford is confident he would beat Thor Bjornsson and avenge his friend Eddie Hall’s defeat.

Hall was dropped twice by the Icelanders on Saturday night before they slipped to a points decision in their grudge fight.

And Ford, who has his hands full with his own fight against the Iranian Hulk next month, took the opportunity to assess Bjornsson ahead of a potential fight.

“I didn’t think he was special, I didn’t think he was great.” he told iFL TV. “He used his advantages; he was smart, he was composed, he kept his distance and used his jab a lot.

“It was a safe fight from Thor, he played it well and I’m just disappointed in Eddie as a friend.”

Ford seemed to suggest he would KO Bjornsson before hedging his bets, adding: “I’ll tell you what, I would take Thor 100 percent, I don’t know if I would KO him but I would.” beat.

“It’s not poisonous; there is no bite in the punch. I would support myself. If Eddie wants me to do it, I would.”

Ford also pointed out Hall’s mistake when he fell out after a promising start that saw Bjornsson get a count as the ropes held him into the second lap.

“These are two guys who have a lot of heart and a lot of power.” he added. “Everybody loves Eddie, he’s a bloody fighter and he hasn’t let himself down at all.

“If you look at that as someone who loves boxing, you can see what the problem was: there were big, big shots that would go in and blow his energy.

“He wanted to hit the one shot but it won’t work. You rely on a lucky shot to get your knockout and you’re not working on our man, you’re not throwing your combinations, his head was static, his hands were deep and Thor had a range advantage.

“I said before that Eddie has two rounds to win and then it gets harder and harder because Thor has good movement and has a very good reach on Eddie.”
