Marvel introduces ‘fantastic talent’ William Hurt after passing away at 71


Marvel has honored William Hurt as “an incredible talent” following the Oscar-winning actor’s death at the age of 71.

The actor passed away a week before his 72nd birthday peacefully and of natural causes, according to a statement shared online by his son Will.

“Rest in peace to a wonderful William Hurt, beloved Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in our Marvel Cinematic Universe,” the official Marvel Studios account tweeted.

Hurt first played Ross opposite Edward Norton in the 2008 film Incredible Hulk, then reprized the role for performances in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow.

But it was his efforts decades before that that earned him critical acclaim – he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in three years for Kiss Of. The Spider Woman in 1985, Children Of A Lesser God in 1986 and Broadcast News in 1987.

He won the Academy Award for Best Actor and the Bafta Award for Kiss Of The Spider Woman in 1985.

Ben Stiller said he hopes Hurt, who befriended Stiller’s father Jerry in 1984 when the pair starred together in David Rabe’s original Broadway production Hurlyburly, will “have a laugh somewhere right there” now” with Stiller’s deceased parents Jerry and Anne Meara.

Hurt’s Oscar-winning best actor Russell Crowe has reflected on his experience playing the iconic hero in Sir Ridley Scott’s 2010 film Robin Hood alongside Americans.

The Juilliard graduate was once again nominated for an Academy Award – this time for best supporting actor – for his performance in the 2005 crime thriller A History Of Violence.

Hurt was accused of physical and verbal abuse by his ex-partner Sandra Jennings in 1989 and the same with Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin, his girlfriend in the mid-1980s, in her memoir five years ago. Her 2010 is I’ll Scream Later.
