MASKED Singer fans believe Mushroom is Ab Fab star Jane Horrocks after ‘solving’ several clues.
The detectives in the armchairs watched each character intently as they made cryptic suggestions and disguised their voices.
And after two weeks of hilarious performances, viewers are convinced that the charming little pup is National Treasure Jane, 57 years old.
Voting their opinions on Twitter, one fan said: “Mushroom – Jane Horrocks. She can sing, voice accent, be Northerner and play Bubble on Ab Fab following the ‘my career’ clue began to fade’.”
Thinking along the same lines, one second wrote: “Mushroom has to be Jane Horrocks. Sounds like her. The clues -” start as a bit of a blur “- Bubble on Ab Fab.” Did something that made you raise an eyebrow “- when she was Lady Macbeth, the infamous pee on stage.”
While a third simply said: “Mushroom’s voice is like Jane Horrocks.”
As fans pointed out, Jane famously urinated mid-performance as Lady Macbeth during Mark Rylance’s production of Shakespeare in the ’90s.
She is also perhaps best known for her role as Jennifer Saunders’ lovable and goofy assistant Bubbles in Ab Fab.
At 5ft 4ins, Jane is definitely the right height to wear a Mushhi suit and her ability to imitate others by shifting her famous voice has made her the perfect masked singer.
Other celebrities in the frame become mushrooms including comedian Catherine Tate and singer Charlotte Church.
The character teased over the weekend: “There aren’t many places where you won’t find mushrooms. I’m so lucky to be able to get out of my woods and grow my own in so many interesting places.
“It’s great to be in the action, and I’ve seen a lot of places. Honestly, I’ve never been able to capture it all but I try to do it all in my stride. .”
Mushroom sang the hit There Are Worse Things I Could Do from the musical Grease – leaving the judges completely confused by her identity.
