Masterchef: John Torode swore after the contestant finished his food

MasterChef fans were a bit flustered during the latest installment of the popular BBC cooking competition, as an oath John Torode uttered before 9pm couldn’t be heard.

The 18th series continued on Tuesday night, and to kick off the semi-final week, the remaining ten chefs got their first taste of what it’s like to work in a restaurant.

With judge John running past as chef Birmingham Pookie approached with a dish, he told her she needed to talk to her MasterChef hopefuls.

He added: “Go back and tell them you put their plate on the card and tell them, because you just, as it is commonly known, dropped them in the hole.”

BBC viewers at home couldn’t help but be confused by John’s choice of language, which remained silent throughout the broadcast, despite the 9pm upstream time of the broadcast.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “Everybody watching MasterChef wondered if John was allowed to say ‘s***’ in front of the watershed.”

Another asked: “Is it allowed to use ‘s***’ before the watershed?”

Another social media user posted: “John doesn’t want their food in his mouth. Pretty sure he just said it…,” as one viewer said: “Are we saying ‘s***’ at 8:25 on BBC1 these days…? That’s new…”

Another compared John to the famous looter Gordon Ramsay, while one wrote: “You are just what is commonly called dropping them in ***. Calm down, John. Is that really necessary? “

“You just, commonly known by the name, dropped them in ***.”

Another asked: “Eh… are you allowed to say ‘Drop them in ***’ before 9pm, like John just did?”

One fan delighted at the apparent surveillance, writing: “Did John just say s***? Clever.”

As the semi-finals got underway, one chef in particular stood out as a winning candidate, as Pookie was in awe of her culinary abilities.

Pookie, a retired beauty salon owner, has repeatedly impressed judges John and Gregg Wallace with her imaginative dishes.

And tonight, the 45-year-old has advanced to round eight final, with viewers equally impressed by her time on the show.

Alongside a bunch of red love heart emojis, one person wrote: “Can we end MasterChef now and declare Pookie the winner? Love her.”

Another posted: “Pookie will soon have her own gig whatever happens on MasterChef. However, be sure she will win,” while a third commented: “The Pookie is a national treasure in the making. “

MasterChef continues on Thursday, April 26 at 8pm on BBC One.
