But the online process begins with 20 questions at the level seen in a pub quiz.

Subscribers are warned against answering Google or asking friends – but no measures are in place to catch fraud.

The BBC told applicants hoping to sit in the revered black leather chair: “These are all types of questions that may appear on the programme, however none of these will appear on the show. programme.”

Potential contestants will also participate in an audition via Zoom, which includes a quiz.
