Matt Goss: I’m like a deer in the headlights on Strictly Come Dancing

Bros singer Matt Goss described his appearance on Seriously To Dance as an emotional challenge.

He, 54, was disqualified from the dance competition after a third public vote with partner Nadiya Bychkova, losing to soap star Kym Marsh and her professional Graziano Di Prima.

The singer-songwriter, who recently returned to the UK after living in the US, described his experience competing in the 20th series of BBC One’s dance show.

He told Red magazine: “Honestly, it was a bit of an emotional challenge for me. I’m like a deer in the headlights.

“It took me a while to start to feel comfortable, but I supported everyone and I am truly grateful for the experience.”

Goss, who has Polish syndrome, said Serious’s costume department was “very concerned” with his feelings.

Poland syndrome is a rare condition characterized by underdeveloped finger membranes and pectoral muscles and usually affects one side of the body, Great Ormond Street Hospital says on its website.

“I didn’t mention it at first because it’s not a disability, but it’s still something that completely wipes out your confidence,” he says.

“I avoided swimming as a kid, and a lot of Bros footage has me wrapped in a towel or covered up.

“I was emotional when I found out what it was because I said, ‘Well, I’m not a geek’ – that’s how I feel.

“Since having Serious, I’ve received a lot of messages from people saying they also have this disease and now I feel honored to be joining that club.”

The full interview with Matt Goss is available in the January issue of Red magazine, now on sale.
