Matt Hancock’s former assistant among the partners of I am a Celebrity to send letters to the contestants

Matt Hancock’s former assistant, Gina Coladangelo, with whom he had an affair while in the minister’s office, was one of the partners on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Campmates sent letters to the Australian woods to help boost the contestants’ motivation.

As the ITV reality show hit the two-week mark on Sunday, celebrities had the chance to win personal messages from their closest and loved ones.

To win the prize, campers were divided into three groups and tasked with balancing 10 blocks on a bar for 60 minutes.

Those with a block balance at the end of that period will receive a letter from home.

Sue Cleaver, Boy George and Chris Moyles got ahead but struggled initially, while Hancock, Mike Tindall, Seann Walsh and Babatunde Aleshe seemed to have more luck with the quest but still had plenty of blocks left.

Jill Scott, Owen Warner and Scarlette Douglas were the last group with 37 minutes left to complete the challenge.

After learning that “small steps” were the best, they completed the challenge in 14 minutes and returned victorious to camp with all 10 letters.

Hancock received a letter from Coladangelo, with whom he was caught violating social distancing rules due to the coronavirus last June when they were caught having an affair in his ministerial office. This eventually led to his resignation as health minister.

Scott read the letter, which read: “Dear Matt, wow, watching you in the woods is such a fun experience.

“We are particularly impressed that you have overcome your fear of snakes.

“We are less certain about the dance.

“Although we did see that you almost slipped thanks to Scarlette. Gina xxxxx”

Mike Tindall also received a text message from his wife Zara, daughter of Princess Anne. The couple has three children.

It read: “Hi honey, we’re missing you so much and really need some hugs from me, but so glad you shared them with your campmates.

“Girls are enjoying sports and throwing themselves into everything at the moment and the little man is loving life, smashing it, learning some new words. Z, M, L and L. x”

Elsewhere in the episode, former rugby players Tindall and Lioness Scott both take part in the Speak Uneasy Bushtucker Trial on their own.

The pair were challenged to drink 10 concocted drinks to win stars for the camp with Tindall facing mixed cockroaches and mixed vomit fruit among his picks.

After mixing the pig’s penis, he said, “That’s horrible. Hi, you repeat.”

Scott was tasked with drinking a mixture of fisheye and snails out of five of her drinks.

While drinking mixed goat testicles, she said, “Oh, it’s got hair in it! It might have been waxy before. It’s disgusting. It’s horrible.”

The former athletes won and returned to camp with all 10 stars.

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues on Virgin Media 1 on Mondays at 9:15pm.
