Matt Lucas has announced that he will be stepping down from his presenter role in The Great British Bake Off.

The 48-year-old comedian, who has hosted the popular show on Channel 4 alongside Noel Fielding on three series, explained that he is leaving because he can no longer commit to the show’s schedule along with other projects. his other projects, including his new host role on the show revival. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, he wrote: “Farewell Bake Off! It was a fun experience and I can’t imagine a more enjoyable way to spend my summer.

“But it became clear to me that I could not present both the Fantasy Football League and Bake Off along with all my other projects.

“So after three series and 51 episodes, I happily pass the baguette to someone else.

The host also praised his team, adding: “I would like to extend my thanks and deepest gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 as well as Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, astronauts The crew and of course the wonderful bakers welcomed me into the tent.

“I wish the takeover all the best and I can’t wait to see the next series without knowing who the winner will be! xx Matt”.

His co-host Fielding admitted he’ll miss Lucas’ “spark in the tent” paying tribute to him in a lengthy comment under his Instagram post.

Fielding wrote: “Fully respect your decision! But I’ll miss the spark in your tent and I’ll miss you guiding other characters at a glance like your brilliant Boris Johnson.

“I will miss your bright smile and your sense of fun and sillyness. I will miss our writing days in that ridiculous room with high ceilings and I will remember us giggling like naughty schoolboys when Paul said “Eggy” in his Scouse accent.

“You are so lovely to work with and so kind to the bakers. Have fun on your next adventure and remember “It’s all about the xxx bot blocker”
