Matthew McConaughey, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Hudson and Abbott Elementary School creator and star Quinta Brunson have been named Person of the Year by People magazine for 2022.
The magazine released its annual list on Wednesday, with editor-in-chief Wendy Naugle explaining that this year’s winners were chosen for their efforts to help others.
McConaughey was chosen for his advocacy efforts after the Uvalde school shooting that rocked his hometown.
Kunis was praised for raising funds – which People said has reached $37m (£30m) – for Ukraine, where she was born.
Brunson and Hudson were honored for their on-screen work.
Hudson, who launched a daytime talk show this year, was commended for her efforts in creating an inclusive program where everyone feels welcome.
Brunson’s Abbott Elementary, a critical hit that made her an Emmy Award winner, was praised as a show that is so much fun and shows that different generations can work well together.
Each honoree has a special cover that highlights their contributions.
Kunis’s included the quote, “I’m proud to be from Ukraine,” while Brunson included her statement: “I’m a sign that times are changing.”
McConaughey’s declared, “We have to do better for our kids,” while Hudson’s said, “I’m living my dream – and learning as I go.”
Previous People Award winners include George Clooney, Regina King, Dr Anthony Fauci, Sandra Oh, Selena Gomez and Simone Biles.
This year’s special edition will be released on Friday.
