Maura Higgins reveals she had a ‘drunk’ affair with a woman and shares orgasm tips

Maura Higgins has revealed she had a “drunken night” with a woman when she was young.

The Love Island star, 31, spoke about the torrid affair on ITV2’s Shopping with Keith Lemon, which airs tonight.

On the show, Maura goes grocery shopping with the comedian, who quizzes her about her love life.

He asks, “Have you been with a lady?”

And the Longford lady replies, “Indeed I have. It’s been years and years and it was just a drunk night thing.”

She then admits, “I’m more… man.”

Keith then asks her if she felt different about kissing a woman instead of a man, to which Maura replied, “It was, but I was very drunk, you know.”

Later in the show, the reality star shares her belief that women need to stop relying on men to be “good” in bed and learn how to give themselves an orgasm.

“Most girls I know have never had an orgasm,” she explains.

“But do you know what it is? I don’t think people get that – you actually have to teach yourself how to orgasm, it’s not about how good the man is or whatever, it’s about you as a woman.

“We women don’t understand how lucky we are, the women who can, you know what I mean?”

Maura also revealed that she became seriously ill with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) after being unknowingly stuck in a tampon for three months.

The Longford native said TSS – a rare but life-threatening disease caused by bacteria releasing harmful toxins in the body – needs to be discussed more and women shouldn’t be ashamed to talk about their periods.

“I’ve had very bad experiences. I’m not a doctor, I don’t know much about it [TSS]but I know you don’t leave a tampon in longer than, I think it’s nine hours, I think that’s the max,” she told Lemon.

“I had a tampon in me for three months. When the doctor found it, it was stuck to my cervix. And I was so sick. I didn’t know what was going on.

“There were people who died from that event,” she continued.

“Young girls may not have noticed how when you go out at night, what if you got really drunk and you forget that those things actually happen and people don’t talk about it.”

The reality TV star said young girls shouldn’t be ashamed of having their period, adding: “I remember even at school I would pull my tampon out of my pocket, slip it up my sleeve and then to such a toilet… when I think back, why did I do that?

“It’s nothing to be ashamed of, so I think it’s an important issue, right?”

It comes after Maura was spotted locking lips with The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex, 32, at the Pride of Britain Awards on Monday night.

The couple were photographed looking cozy and even took a cab home together afterwards.

And according to eyewitnesses, Maura’s ex-boyfriend Giovanni Pernice, who also attended the event at London’s Grosvenor House, was less than impressed with the couple’s flirtatious behavior.

The Strictly Come Dancing pro is said to have “stormed off” after seeing Maura and Joey kiss.

A source told The Daily Star: “Joey and Maura walked hand in hand through the after party through the sea of celebs in the red room.

“The couple were smiling but Maura’s ex definitely wasn’t as he angrily walked right past them.

“The beloved couple then stood in the foyer with their hands clasped and talked about how they would get home.”

However, a representative for Giovanni denied the rumours, saying: “This story is completely false. Gio enjoyed his free time with friends and colleagues. He had a brilliant evening at Pride of Britain and loved meeting the winners and heroes that night.” Maura Higgins reveals she had a ‘drunk’ affair with a woman and shares orgasm tips
