The future of Kylian Mbappe is not yet resolved, however Paris St Germain boss Maurice Pochettino finally broke his silence with a captain’s gesture.

Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season and rejects a world record offer real Madrid In the summer, PSG face the loss of the man who cost them £141million for nothing. The French giants have offered him a record deal to re-sign at Parc des Princes but their offer has so far been turned down.

The Frenchman is one of the most sought-after talents in world football and after beating Madrid single-handedly Champions League Round of 16, his value for PSG was further highlighted. And Pochettino has now broken his silence with a call to make him captain.

PSG may have Neymar and Lionel Messi in their ranks but Mbappe is without a doubt their most valuable player which is why they are keen to re-sign him. But their efforts have so far been unsuccessful, and time for a solution is quickly running out.

Up until now, Pochettino has remained rather closed on the deal history, but over time the Argentine has offered his opinion on the situation. Pochettino said: “We want the best for Kylian Mbappe, for him and for the club – and the best thing for Paris Saint-Germain is that Kylian stays, it’s also the best for Kylian.”

Mbappe is second to Wissam Ben Yedder in the race for the Lique 1 golden boot, and PSG travel to Clermont on Saturday in their bid for another league title. And with potentially just eight league games left in his PSG career, Pochettino is doing everything to convince Mbappe to stay.

“I am considering him as a possible captain for tomorrow,” revealed Pochettino. Mbappe was in the form of his life for PSG and after scoring both home and away in the Champions League defeat by Madrid he continued to build defenders in domestic competitions.

Mbappe put on one of the best performances of the season last weekend as PSG beat Lorient 5-1 as the Frenchman scored two goals and assisted the other three. Neymar and Messi also scored but they had Mbappe to thank.

PSG are almost determined to win Ligue 1 every year with the incredible squad they can boast, but in Europe they continue to suffer and that may be why Mbappe is considering his future. The French giants continue to fail in the Champions League but their latest disaster was one of their most brutal exits.

Mbappe scored twice against Real Madrid despite being on the losing side

The French led 2-0 on aggregate against Madrid early in the game in the final 30 minutes, but a full surrender saw Karim Benzema score a late hat-trick to put the Whites through. And the French forward has used his heights as a stepping stone, conceding another three Chelsea in the quarter-final first leg.

The manner of the Champions League exit has caused quite a stir in Paris, with Pochettino likely to be sacked by PSG but Erik ten Hag likely appointed Manchester United Coach, the Argentine may be trying to get himself back on the good books. Pochettino was in the running for the United job but the role is set to be handed to Ten Hag.

Without another attractive job, Pochettino could feel he can be given another chance if he can convince Mbappe to stay and giving him the armband is a clear last resort. But with his contract just a few months away, PSG are playing a dangerous game with Madrid being one of the sides ready to pounce.
