Donut and coffee chain Krispy Kreme and fast-food giant McDonald’s announced Tuesday a trial partnership that will see donuts sold in McDonald’s restaurants.
The move comes as Krispy Kreme expands its donut delivery services to outside stores like gas stations and McDonald’s looks to expand its baked goods.
Nine locations in Louisville, Kentucky will participate in the process, which begins October 26.
“This is our first partnership with McDonald’s in the United States as we continually seek new ways to increase access to fresh donuts through our daily fresh-delivered network,” Krispy Kreme said in a press release.
Three different types of donuts will be shipped daily from Krispy Kreme to McDonald’s restaurants as part of the trial.
Through the test, McDonald’s hopes to learn more about how customers respond to offering different baked goods on its menu. Recently, other baked goods like apple fritters and cinnamon rolls were also added for the first time.
“This little test will help us understand how offering new baked goods like Krispy Kreme might impact operations in our restaurants,” McDonald’s said in a press release.
McDonald’s recently announced it would not be bringing back its all-day breakfast menu after it ended early in the pandemic.
