Mediahuis has received nine awards at the Newsbrands Ireland Journalism Awards 2022.
The Sunday World’s Atrick O’Connell was named Crime Writer of the Year, The Sunday World’s Roy Curtis was named Popular Columnist of the Year, The Irish Independent’s Shane Phelan was also named News Reporter of the Year, and the Sunday World’s Eugene Masterson received the Showbiz Journalist of the Year award,
Meanwhile, the Sunday Independent’s Paul Kimmage has been named Broadsheet Sports Journalist of 2022 and the Sunday Independent’s Gene Kerrigan has been named Broadsheet Columnist of the Year.
Irish independent photographer Mark Condren, Deputy Director of Photography Owen Breslin and the team won the Best Video Journalism award for their coverage of the refugee crisis in Ukraine.
And the Local News Project won the Digital Innovation Award for Mediahuis.
A total of 23 category awards and the overall journalist of the year were announced
The award was presented to Daniel McConnell of the Irish Examiner.
Announcing the 2022 Journalist of the Year winner, Claire Grady, Chair of the Jury, said on behalf of the members of the independent jury: “Today’s winners represent the best journalism in Ireland today…important stories, insightful analysis, gripping commentary, not to forget the stories that entertain us and brighten our day. Many underscore the role of journalists as guardians of our society.
