Meet Anna Tyrie, CEO and Founder of Language Learning Platform: English Like A Native
English Like A Native is an English language learning platform that offers an innovative, immersive online English learning experience that supports all of our students’ key needs. We offer courses, English practice classes and a thriving online community for students to meet and practice.
How did you come up with the idea for the company?
I am an actress by training. I used to teach idioms and started sharing practice lessons with my students on YouTube. I suddenly realized that YouTube was paying me for my videos, and things went wrong from there. I now have over a million followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
I did a lot of paid sponsorships for other people’s products and I started to wonder why I wasn’t selling my own products. I created the website, courses, community and other products and now I am solely focused on being a great teacher on social media to get students interested in taking my premium courses.
How has the company performed during the pandemic?
The pandemic was a real driver of change in the digital world. People are now very confident and comfortable with online courses and learning. It has been a real eye opener for many people and has helped move the industry forward in a way that supports our business goals.
As the pandemic has shrunk everyone’s world to the confines of their home countries (and homes), English learners have sought new ways to achieve immersive language learning experiences.
We have developed over 400 lessons and have evolved from a purely digital product to a much more multimedia, multi-touch point platform focused on enabling students to produce English through real interactions that make moving to a foreign country as good as possible we can reflect.
Personally, as a business owner, the pandemic has brought me closer to my partner who is more available to support me professionally, both as a consultant and as a more hands-on father. I think it’s fair to say that the pandemic has had less of an impact on my ability to run my business than it has on becoming a mother!
What can we expect from English Like A Native in the future?
We hope to be recognized for industry innovation awards and will continue to create world-class online English learning courses and tools that help students enjoy an engaging and immersive online experience.
After focusing on expanding the product offering in recent years, we will renew our focus on organic growth through social media.
