Meet Colin Gray, Founder and CEO of Podcast Experts: The Podcast Host

We’re a podcasting company dedicated to helping everyone get their voice out into the world. We create highly researched, highly useful content to help podcasters grow and stay current with the industry. We have published podcast how-to content at ThePodcastHost.com since 2010 and serves over 2 million people annually. Access is free and includes hundreds of blog posts, podcast episodes, and YouTube videos. In addition, we offer in-depth online courses and live coaching available in our subscription area: the Podcast Host Academy.

In 2018 we launched Alitu, a podcast maker web app. Our app takes the tech out of podcasting; Automate audio cleanup, add music, reassemble your clips, and add fades and transitions. It also offers tools to record, edit and publish calls. Really, Alitu is an all-in-one package that helps people create their podcast in less time and with less stress.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

To be honest, there wasn’t a single aha moment! It was a development over more than 10 years. I started learning technology at a university in Edinburgh. I was asked to get into podcasting and fell in love with the medium immediately.

I couldn’t help but start a podcast myself and wrote all about the process. That drew a good audience, and the affiliate income allowed me to work full-time about four years later. I started hiring, developed the education business and then the idea for Alitu came up. It was the sheer volume of readers asking for help with audio editing and production that proved the demand, so I hired a developer and started building prototypes.

How has the company performed during the pandemic?

We’ve been fortunate as our usage increased dramatically during the pandemic. People had more time for hobbies and side projects. Businesses had to figure out how to reach their audience and connect with their employees.

It all spawned countless aspiring podcasters. We’ve managed to double our team, speed up our content and release a number of new features for podcasters within Alitu.

What can we expect from you in the future?

We think big and want to take on the giants of the podcasting world. We will continue to develop our world-class editing platform and our call and solo recording tools. However, we will combine this with podcast monetization experiments to help creators monetize their shows. Over the next few months we will be launching a number of groundbreaking new tools and user experiences that have been in development for over a year and will be a game changer for us and the podcasting world.

With The Podcast Host, we aim to continue publishing the best podcast content and education on the web and continue to be a force for good in this space! Keep an eye out for an exciting announcement this spring as we’re giving one (aspiring) podcaster the chance of a lifetime!
