Meet Humberto Ayres Pereira, Founder and CEO of Spreadsheet Data Company: Rows

The world runs on spreadsheets. They are essential to any business. We also use them privately to track personal investments and build family budgets.

But the spreadsheets that existed were invented for a pre-iPhone and pre-cloud API world. They have outdated designs. When sharing data, they’re prone to errors – it’s far too easy to accidentally delete things. In addition, they are isolated from other tools; Reading in data is a time-consuming process.

At Rows, we reinvented spreadsheets so people can access the data they need right from a spreadsheet that also looks modern and is collaborative.

Rows has cells and all the functionality you’re used to, just like Google Sheets and Excel. But beyond that, we’ve added powerful integrations with business tools and public databases. Your spreadsheet can communicate with Google Analytics, Twitter, Stripe, and Salesforce; it can send emails and Slack notifications; and even connect to your custom APIs. You can also pull public data from databases like LinkedIn, Hunter, or Google Maps.

Rows also offers Live Sharing – a revolutionary new feature for spreadsheets. Users with live access only see the data they want and can only edit cells that you’ve made editable. In other words, nobody can mess up your spreadsheets. They can now also be easily converted into interactive dashboards, reports and forms with buttons, input fields and checkboxes. Plus, they look great on mobile.

Our built-in integrations with business tools and live sharing are easily the biggest overhaul of spreadsheets since Google Sheets.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

When Torben (my co-founder) and I worked together on our previous company, we used spreadsheets extensively and were amazed at how stuck in the past they were.

So when we were creating our next startup, we quickly came up with the idea of a modern spreadsheet. A powerful, next-generation spreadsheet integrated with modern tools that help teams work more productively and easily.

How has the company developed in recent years?

Building a feature-rich product for multiple use cases like spreadsheets is a long process. We wanted to make sure that Rows remains a real spreadsheet with functions and formulas that users already know. This meant catching up with traditional spreadsheets like Excel and Google Sheets, which have been in development for decades. As such, we’ve focused on working towards feature parity where it matters, while adding innovations and features required by modern teams such as: B. built-in integrations.

We now support most of the features that everyday spreadsheet users use, and our unique features have been simplified to be accessible to a wide range of users. Now you don’t have to speak JSON to get the data you need easily from Twitter, Google Analytics, Stripe or any other integration. We also recently launched Rows’ native desktop apps for macOS and Microsoft, and we’re seeing them quickly gain traction.

What can we expect from Rows in the future?

Our roadmap for this year is packed with exciting new features including a few spreadsheet favorites – Conditional Formatting, Freeze Pane, Version History – unique innovations with a new data explorer and custom function builder. We will continue to make our desktop apps more powerful and are working on developing an iPad app. Finally, we’re also adding many new integrations with services like TikTok, Shopify, and many others.
